The Tomorrow War

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟 (3 out of 5 stars)

Directed by Chris McKay and starring Chris Pratt, “The Tomorrow War” offers a high-concept premise but ultimately falls short of its potential.

In the near future, humanity faces extinction due to an alien invasion. To save the world, soldiers are recruited from the past to fight in a desperate war. Chris Pratt plays Dan Forester, a former soldier turned science teacher, who gets drafted into this time-traveling conflict.

The creature design is impressive – the aliens are relentless, ravenous, and equipped with deadly tentacles. Betty Gilpin shines as Dan’s wife, providing emotional depth in an otherwise action-heavy film.

Despite its intriguing setup, “The Tomorrow War” relies on familiar tropes. The time-travel mechanics are never fully explored. The dialogue feels clunky, and character development takes a backseat to explosions.

Prat, known for his charisma, struggles to convey the weight of a reluctant hero. His dramatic moments lack impact. The film’s emotional core – Dan’s relationship with his daughter- feels underdeveloped.

The film delivers intense action sequences, but they lack innovation. The pacing drags during the second act. The climax, set in a frozen Siberian landscape, offers some thrills but doesn’t fully satisfy.

“The Tomorrow War” is a serviceable sci-fi flick, but it won’t linger in your memory. If you’re a fan of Pratt or enjoy mindless action, it’s worth a watch. Otherwise, it’s a missed opportunity.
