In “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre,” the British government recruits super spy Orson Fortune (played by Jason Statham) for high-risk operations. What is his newest task? Locate a stolen briefcase holding a mystery device with possibly catastrophic repercussions. Along with his teamโJ.J. Davies (Bugzy Malone), the GPS-savvy operative, and Sara Fidel (Aubrey Plaza), the clever hackerโOrson hires Hollywood star Danny Francesco (Josh Hartnett) to enter an elite party thrown by millionaire George Simonds (Hugh Grant). The quest leads them from Madrid to Morocco, with high-speed chases, humorous banter, and a touch of elegance.
Hugh Grant, who plays millionaire arms merchant Greg Simonds, steals the stage. The video takes us on a visual journey through Madrid, Morocco, and Cannes. The combination of lethal weapons technology and a global clandestine operation shows potential.
Despite a large cast and fascinating settings, the picture lacks Guy Ritchie’s signature flare. Orson’s fears are established but not addressed, leaving humorous potential unfulfilled. The tension surrounding the mystery bag is flat.
“Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre” is a mixed bag. While it falls short of Ritchie’s finest work, it does have some entertaining moments. Fans of action-comedy thrillers may find it worthwhile to see, particularly Hugh Grant’s entertaining portrayal. Just don’t expect it to change the genre.
