June (Storm Reid) is a senior in high school who has spent her entire life surrounded by technology. When her widowed mother, Grace (Nia Long), goes missing while on a trip in Colombia with her new lover (Ken Leung), June’s senses kick in. Armed with her computer skills, she launches a frenzied hunt for her mother, putting together evidence from online behaviours, security footage, and in-person conversations.

“Missing” does a remarkable narrative highwire performance, much like its predecessor. Storm Reid’s portrayal of June is entertaining, and we see her multitasking abilities as she uses FaceTime, Venmo, and Spotify. The film sustains tension by providing glimpses into June’s life through her computer camera, allowing viewers to form an intimate relationship with the character.

“Missing” deviates into twist overload. June’s tech-savvy personality keeps us interested.

“Missing” lacks the freshness of its predecessor, yet it remains an exciting techno-thriller. If you can get past the visual gimmicks and embrace the suspense, you’ll be wondering until the conclusion.
