Dear Ventures:
This week, Peter and I found ourselves at The Kal in Vernon—a cozy gem steeped in history and charm. There’s something magical about walking into a place that’s been around since 1892, as though every creak of the floorboards and whiff of sizzling wings carries a story of its own. It was the perfect spot for us to slow down after our quiet birthday escape to Montana’s Hill Ranch.
We kept things simple, sharing their famous wings, which were hands-down some of the best we’ve ever had. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly sauced, they were pure comfort on a plate. Peter couldn’t get enough of the smoky BBQ ones, while I kept sneaking bites of the tangy hot ones (even though he said they were his). Paired with cold drinks and the warmth of The Kal’s old-world charm, it felt like a slice of nostalgia and comfort rolled into one.
It was one of those evenings where the food wasn’t just delicious—it brought us closer. Between bites, we talked about how important it is to hit pause in life, to step away from the hustle and just be. The Kal felt like the perfect setting for that, with its welcoming vibe and a hint of the past echoing through its walls.
Food for Thought:
Relationships, like great meals, are built layer by layer. There’s the spice of adventure, the sweetness of shared moments, and the tang of compromise (because sometimes, you really do have to let them have the last wing!). Take time to explore these flavors with your partner, whether it’s trying a new dish, visiting a historic spot, or just sitting together without distractions.
So here’s a little reminder for couples: savor the small things. The laughter over a messy plate of wings, the quiet clink of glasses after a long day—these are the ingredients that make love richer, deeper, and more delicious.
Until next time,
Joy & Peter
Together with you, is my favourite place to be…
